Was there ever a color name change for Faber-Castell Polychromos, Albrecht Durer and PITT Pastel art materials?

Yes, there was a name change for 46 colors some time ago. This was done so that Faber-Castell offered the names that the Artist was familiar with using in the market.

What does PITT mean?

The name "PITT" derives from the English word "pit", meaning earth colors mined from the earth. The range is used for working in contrast areas: light-dark or Black-white.

 

What does Polychromos mean?

Polychromos is an Ancient Greek word meaning "many colored".  It is a protected trade mark of Faber-Castell.

 

How many pencils come in the Polychromos and Albrecht Durer mahogany-stained wood cases?

Faber-Castell offers 100 pencils in the mahogany-stained wood cases. 

 

Are empty mahogany-stained wood cases available for purchase?

Empty mahogany-stained cases are available.  Retail stores are able to order this item for you.

 

If there are 120 Polychromos and Albrecht Durer colors available, why does the wood case only hold 100 pencils?

There were 20 new colors introduced to the Art & Graphic product line. Originally there were 100 colors and the case was designed to hold this number.  The 120 colors are available in a metal tin at this time.

 

Can I sharpen my PITT Pastel Pencils with a sharpener?

Yes, unlike other pencils on the market, Faber-Castell PITT Pastel Pencils are sharpened with a sharpening knife or a hand held sharpener. The angle and the sharpness of the blade is a very important factor when sharpening pencils correctly.
